National Education Programmes

National Education Programmes

​Singapore History Consultants has been conducting National Education (NE) Programmes since 2001.

Over the years, we have designed more than a hundred original  and unique NE Programmes covering a wide range of topics including the six pillars of Total Defence (Military, Civil, Economic, Social, Psychological and Digital), World War II History, Globalisation, as well as Race and Religion. 

Our dedicated facilitators are experienced storytellers, who specialise in weaving key learning points into their stories, jokes and interactions with participants.

AMAZING RACES

FUN ON FOOT: EXPLORING FORT CANNING TO THE PADANG ™
Amazing Race (3hrs)

​Participants will get to play an Amazing Race covering landmarks on historic Fort Canning Hill, and a selection of architectural icons in the Civic District, such as the National Gallery Singapore, Central Fire Station, and the Lim Bo Seng Memorial.

FORT SILOSO AMAZING RACE ™
Amazing Race (2.5hrs)

Engage with facilitators to understand the importance of social cohesion and how different communities were treated differently during the Japanese Occupation. Participants will also learn how surrender was discussed at Fort Canning, and Ford Factory as well as the consequences of the Fall of Singapore in 1942 and the defeat of the Japanese in 1945.

WALKING TOURS

KRANJI WAR GRAVES ™
Walking Tour (2.5 - 3hrs)

Through the tour of the cemetery and deeply moving stories, participants will gain a deeper awareness and appreciation for the supreme sacrifice made by our soldiers, sailors and airmen, and their courage in war. Learn about the importance of a well-organised civil defence in a country's defence strategy.

Walking Tour (2.5 - 3hrs)

Understand Kallang’s colonial, wartime, and post-war history as a mirror of Singapore’s journey from colonial outpost to nationhood. Learn how Singapore took the long and hard road to self-government and independence.

​A RISE OF ASIA MUSEUM TOUR

Walking Tour (2hrs)

The Rise of Asia Museum (RoAM) will explore the ancient contributions of Asia, such as culture, religion, and the arts; its eclipse during the colonial period; and its postwar reemergence. Learn about Asia’s dominance in the ancient past, how the Europeans colonised much of Asia, and how Asian countries overcame significant challenges such as World War II and the struggle for independence to become economic, cultural, and military giants today.

SHATTERING WAR MYTHS: THE FALL OF SINGAPORE 1942 ™
Coach Tour (4 hrs)

Explore the role the Guns of Singapore played during the Battle for Singapore and dispel the myths at Fort Siloso. Understand causes for the British defeat and Japanese victory in the Fall of Singapore. Learn about the differentiated treatment of races during the Japanese Occupation and discuss how the SAF will fight today.

PRINCIPLES OF WAR: SHAPING THE WAY WE FIGHT ™
Coach Tour (4 hrs)

Learn why Malaya and Singapore fell in just 70 days to the Japanese during World War II and the mistakes the Allies made which led to the disastrous surrender. Appreciate the application of Principles of war by the Japanese Army and the Allies during World War II, and see how the principles can be applied in unconventional warfare during the Confrontation with Indonesia.

KONFRONTASI:
​THE UNTOLD STORY OF AN UNDECLARED WAR 
™
Coach Tour (4 hrs)

Hear about the true story and origins of Konfrontasi and its impact on Singapore. Understand how our local military units, 1 SIR and 2 SIR, were deployed to defend against, and actively seek out, Indonesian infiltrators.

​​MAKING OF A WARRIOR: UNDERSTANDING STRATEGY AND TACTICS OF THE BATTLE FOR SINGAPORE ™
Coach Tour (4 hrs)

On this popular tour, visit key sites where the Battle for Singapore was fought. Through exciting and well-researched stories, understand the strategies and tactics employed by the Allies and the Japanese during WWII and appreciate the importance of preparedness and sound military leadership even in peacetime.

VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES

Through the virtual tour of the cemetery, participants will gain an awareness of the military units and personnel – both local and foreign – that were involved in the Battle of Singapore, and appreciate the sacrifice they made. They will in turn understand the need for Commitment to Defence (C2D), the Singapore Armed Forces, and Total Defence.​

Virtually visit the Battlebox, a multiple award-winning authentic World War II site, and understand the importance of Fort Canning Hill in Singapore's military history. Then virtually visit the National Museum to discover what happened in Singapore during the Japanese Occupation.

A DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION PROGRAMME 
™

Virtual Experience (3hrs)

Participants will be introduced to a basic understanding of the role religion plays in society and why we should protect the principle of secularism in Singapore. They will learn the basic tenets, philosophy and practices of 4 major world religions and realise the dangers of having misconceptions about other faiths.

BEYOND RACE:
A DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION PROGRAMME 
™

Virtual Experience (3hrs)

Participants will gain an understanding of the origins of Singapore's ethnic diversity and the consequences of changes in the ethnic composition of the population. They will also ​learn how digital platforms can be exploited cynically for socially destructive activities.

​​ONE HUMAN RACE:
​COMBATING RACISM AND APPRECIATING DIVERSITY 
™
In-Camp Seminar, Workshop & Quizzes (3 hrs)

​Gain a greater understanding and appreciation of Singapore’s multi-racial landscape. Through a survey of Singapore’s history, participants will learn how Singapore’s multi-racial landscape came to be. They will also learn about the innate and underlying prejudices one may have about different races, and understand the sources of interracial tensions and the importance of handling these with tact and sensitivity. They will learn about the dangers of digital platforms and how one can guard against these threats. 

FROM THE KARMIC TO THE ABRAHAMIC FAITHS:
​UNDERSTANDING RELIGION AND CONFLICT TODAY 
™
In-Camp Seminar, Workshop & Quizzes (3 hrs)

This programme will introduce participants to the different religions practised in Singapore, and unique perspectives and commonalities about them. ​Participants will gain a greater understanding and appreciation of Singapore’s multi-religious landscape, and learn about the importance of religious harmony in Singapore and around the world.
